Rules for gamplay
Code of conduct
Participating in Volte is a privilege - not a right. COPPA stipulates that one must be at least 13 years of age to participate in Volte. One is allowed a single account & name in the game. Prior to receiving the welcome e-mail from Rebecca, one has two weeks to register on the forum to escape expulsion. Excluding the joining form, no recognition e-mail will be sent in response to submitted forms. All member-created websites pertaining to Volte must have a disclaimer on every page. This includes, but is not limited to, a statement regarding the ficticous nature of the content and a working link to Volte.
While it is perfectly acceptable that one uses pictures for their animals, written permission is unconditionally required from the photographer. Written credit is a courteous way to show appreciation to photographers. The penalty for copyright infringement is swift expulsion.
Stewardship
Animals
Horse owners are responsible for housing, feeding, equipping, and transporting their animals. Horses must receive a veterinary checkup annually; they must receive farrier attention bi-monthly. The Volte Humane Society has grounds to confiscate any animal at their discretion. Animals may be "warp aged" at anytime to an elder year - never younger.
Finances
Upon arriving in Volte, each player starts with $200,000. You also receive two horse creation credits, which may be used at any time. After two weeks of gameplay, players earn two additional creation credits. Each player records their own creation credits in the Treasure Chest. The Bank records your finances for you.
Establishments
Any member may open a business or society at any time. Members must wait one month to apply for a stable of their own. Stable owners must purchase facilities from Volte Construction, Ltd. prior to applying for approval.
Breeding
Breeding seasons are March-May and September-November. Animals must be at least four years old and have earned their Single merit to breed.
Mares carry their foals for one month and may only be bred once per breeding season. Further, the dam may not be shown during the pregnancy. Mares may only have one foal per birth year. For example, if one of her foals is registered as being born in 2005 - she cannot have another foal 'born' in that same year.
Racehorses - mares and stallions - may not be bred, excluding endurance horses. However, all endurance stallions are required to take 1 month off from competition after being bred.

Rules for competition
Typing
Prior to competiting, horses must be 'typed.' Show horses may have two types maximum; racehorses, one excluding halter. Horses may change types at the owner's discretion.
Click here to see a pop-up of available types.
Participation
Leveling
Maiden horses may begin competiting at any level. Once that level is decided upon, a show horse must earn 3 first places in an individual discipline at an exact level to move on. Racehorses must finish first or second in a Maiden to move into Allowance company, then win two Grade Three races to move up, and two Grade Two races to reach Grade One.
Limitations
Horses may compete at fourth level or higher in but a single type. Show horses may compete in no more than one show per day and must rest four days between shows; they are also limited to six saddle classes per day. Race horses may compete in no more than one race per five days; they are also limited to one race per meet. Endurance racers competing in Limited Distance & Open Distance I are limited to three events per month, with a minimum of seven days between events. Endurance racers competing in Open Distance II and beyond are limited to two events per month, with a minimum of ten days between events. Competitive abuse is especial ground for confiscation of animals.
Points and titles
A class or race must have at least three participants to award official points. We use the United States ribbon system; blue is first, red second, and so forth.
